Journeyman Electrician

Summary

The Journeyman Electrician will work with the scheduling and management team to complete service calls, renovations and installations as necessary. This individual will be expected to play a key role in on-site activities as site foreman, field partner to the project manager/scheduler, assisting in the ordering of materials and coordination of on-site activities. In addition, they will be expected to work independently with a company service vehicle to collect materials and execute various types of electrical jobs. They will also be expected to provide input into job design, installation and coordination.

The Journeyman Electrician will be responsible for the installation of electrical systems as per engineered drawings, or as per verbal or written agreement with the project manager. The expectation is that this individual is prepared to work independently, and problem solve various situations as needed. Other responsibilities will include managing a work van, performing some basic administrative tasks such as completing checklists, time sheets and ordering materials.

The Journeyman electrician is expected to perform a variety of duties including regular service calls/troubleshooting and larger installations with longer time frames. A variety of skill sets are needed, and a professional demeanor is critical.

Job Duties

  • Install and repair electrical systems of various types
  • Organize materials and tools in a logical and professional manner
  • Operate a company vehicle/van and visit various sites on a daily basis to complete jobs as scheduled
  • Procure materials from various suppliers and handle recycling and garbage as necessary
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics for customer issues and provide effective solutions
  • Rough and finish wiring
  • Coordinate with the project manager/scheduler/owner for arranging job schedules
  • Supervise apprentice electricians as necessary and provide adequate guidance
  • Review drawings/blueprints for projects and effectively plan the installation
  • Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains new equipment
  • Proposes changes or modifications to plans to enhance operation and efficiency of systems plans and specifications for sanitation facilities
  • Communicates professionally with customers (both residential and commercial) in person and over the phone or email
  • Uses company phone app for scheduling, planning, communicating
  • Schedules critical and non-critical activities effectively for project success
  • Coordinates with project manager and owner directly
  • Supervises and provides on-the-job training for apprentices
  • Manages job sites in a professional and efficient manner
  • Develops goals and priorities; assigns tasks and projects

  • Effectively navigates the Canadian Electrical Code
  • Communicates effectively with electrical inspectors for successful inspections
  • Travels to various job sites each day or week as needed
  • Keeps detailed and accurate notes in the company system of each job
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance and the industry as a whole
  • Other assigned work as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Canadian Red Seal certification as Journeyman Electrician
  • 5 years experience as a Journeyman Electrician
  • Possess a valid drivers license
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance and service electrical work
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment – including working alone
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Computer literate
  • Able to maintain a company service van – clean and organized materials and garbage/recycling

Work Conditions

  • Availability during regular business hours, Monday to Friday
  • Availability for weekend or evening work for the occasional planned job
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
  • Travel to various sites throughout the day as needed
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Overtime as required
  • Hazards associated with the trade
